12.2. Oregon Caseworker Questionnaire
Presumptions: Caseworkers have too many tasks are/or are not adequately trained in all of their tasks and/or become overworked and stressed.
Create a questionnaire for caseworkers – anonymous, so they can reply honestly:
- “List all tasks/assignments/parts of your job as caseworker – from memory, not from the manual”
- [System captures the parts in the sequence they were input and then displays them all in a random order]
- “Rank all parts of your job in order of what you like to do most to what you like to do least” – [ranking 1-x, no repetitive numbers]
- [For the top part they liked most:] “Why do you like that part best?” [open-ended text box, NOT list of possible answers]
- [For the second to the top part they liked most:] “Why do you like that part?” [open-ended text box]
- [For the bottom part they liked least:] “Why do you like that part the least?” [open-ended text box]
- [For the second to the bottom part they liked least:] “Why do you not like that part?” [open-ended text box]
- [Display the bottom (liked least) part again and ask:] “For this part, what would you prefer to happen? 1. Get more training in that part; 2. Have a mentor help you with that part. 3. Have someone else do that part; 4. Something else: ______” [radio buttons, one choice; open-ended text box for choice #4]
- [Display the second to the bottom (liked least) part again and ask:] “For this part, what would you prefer to happen? 1. Get more training in that part; 2. Have a mentor help you with that part. 3. Have someone else do that part; 4. Something else: ______” [radio buttons, one choice; open-ended text box for choice #4]
- [Display the full list again, in a different random order]
- “Rank all parts of your job in order of what you feel most competent/confident in, to what you feel least competent/confident in” – [ranking 1-x, no repetitive numbers]
- [For the top part in their results (most competent:] “Why do you feel most competent/confident in that part (e.g., prior knowledge, more interesting, better training, etc.)?” [open-ended text box]
- [For the second to the top part (second most competent) in their results:] “Why do you feel competent/confident in that part (e.g., prior knowledge, more interesting, better training, etc.)?” [open-ended text box]
- [For the bottom part in their results (least competent):] “Why do you not feel competent/confident in that part?” [no examples, just open-ended text box]
- [For the second to the bottom part (second to the least competent) in their results:] “Why do you not feel competent/confident in that part?” [no examples, just open-ended text box]
- [Display the bottom (least competent) part again and ask:] “For this part, what would you prefer to happen? 1. Get more training in that part; 2. Have a mentor help me with that part. 3. Have someone else do that part; 4. Something else: ______” [radio buttons, one choice; open-ended text box for choice #4]
- [Display the second to the bottom (second to the least competent) part again and ask:] “For this part, what would you prefer to happen? 1. Get more training in that part; 2. Have a mentor help me with that part. 3. Have someone else do that part; 4. Something else: ______.” [radio buttons, one choice; open-ended text box for choice #4]
- [Display an open-ended text box with:] “What actions do you recommend be taken to help you in your job?” ______________
- [Display an open-ended text box with:] “If you were asked to design your own perfect caseworker job, what tasks/parts would it include and how would your job look and feel?” ___________________
- [Display an open-ended text box with:] “Why did you become a caseworker?” ______________
