Our Transformational Journey


Welcome to the first episode of the Living a Dream: A Transformational Journey podcast series. My name is Jo Calk. I am a Life Awareness Coach, Reiki Master, author, and speaker. Tonight’s half-hour podcast is entitled “Our Transformational Journey.”

Just a little housekeeping before I get started: In these first several episodes of this podcast, I will be laying the groundwork for us to begin that transformational journey. Later episodes will include interviews. This is not a caller-participation-type show, as there are only 30-minutes to cover all that I want share. As a Life Awareness Coach, I help people understand the Transformational Journey that each of us is on. The initial part of that Journey involves becoming aware of who we are and to remember why we are here on this Earth, at this place, at this time. First, a bit about what we’re not:

  • We’re not here by accident
  • We, as human beings, are not the result of random mutations of our genes
  • We are not a clone of anyone else – at least as far as I am aware
  • We are not alone

Now, to who we are and why we’re here:

  • We chose to be here at this time to contribute to the transformational experience of the shift in the Group Consciousness
  • We each have our unique gifts, talents, skills, experiences, interests, and desires
  • We each came here to share our unique perspective with others for the enlightenment of all
  • We are each unique but all equal
  • We each have our own path on this Transformational Journey
  • We each have our specific goals and dreams
  • We each have free will
  • We always have choices
  • We have free will to choose our path
  • We have free will to choose to share our gifts with others, or not
  • We have free will to choose a path of our own, for our own individual Journey

After years of individually coaching people, I decided to start this podcast, laying out a series of steps, a path, I used to become aware of our Reality and our important part in enhancing our world.

I’m excited to share this coaching, this information, with you freely. My Ultimate Goal for my Life Awareness Coaching and my Reiki practice is simple, strategic, straightforward, and sincere:

My Ultimate Goal is the global healing and peace of our Earth, our physical reality, through the awakening, awareness, and enlightenment of all its people to our roles in transforming our beliefs toward the Earth’s healing.

I am not alone in having this Goal of “Peace on Earth” and cooperation, caring, and sharing by all people. However, my approach is a bit different: I am healing the Earth from within.

All of what I have shared so far will be explained in depth during this podcast series. Tonight, I am merely introducing some of the major topics for you to start thinking about and your interpretation of what they mean.

Having set my goal and intention for this podcast, I think an introduction to myself and my background is in order.

This Living a Dream: A Transformational Journey podcast series was born through love and joy, as I believe each of us was born filled with love and joy. Although it is a follow-up to my first book, Pieces: Help for Your Life Journey, written under a pseudonym, this podcast series represents the “phoenix rising from the ashes” of childhood to share joy and happiness with everyone. Pieces shared my life as a cork being held under water, and just starting to be released. This podcast series is the cork bursting through the water’s surface, flying high into the air, and then floating contentedly on the surface, easily riding the waves of life.

Wanting to share my joy and my discoveries as I emerged, phoenix-like and cork-like, from the depths of being a “victim” with low self-esteem and no belief that life would improve at all, I started my sharing with a free two-hour live workshop entitled Breathing the Joy of Life. This workshop was a multi-media (I used music to illustrate various points), entertaining (I danced a bit, but no singing), and uplifting (so I’ve been told by people who attended) event. During the two-hour workshop, I was able to introduce people to some of the tools that had helped me emerge from my “victim”-state to one of pure joy. But I was not able to delve deeply into any topic nor provide background, history, and examples of the topics and tools I was presenting. After giving several of these successful free workshops in local cities, I realized I was only able to scratch the surface of what I had hoped would result in a true transformation for others.

The workshop was well-received, was a good introduction to the topics, my enthusiasm was contagious, and people came away feeling better – but did it last? Was there a transformation? By merely lightly touching on the main topics, I was not able to share the depth and breadth of understanding I had gained through my extensive research and study.

This podcast grew out of my internal desire to share more with you, to share the wisdom and knowledge of the great teachers I had found, and to provide examples of the application of that knowledge from my life, and from the shared stories of others who had been helped and uplifted. This podcast takes the place of me being able to sit down with each of you individually, sharing my journey of joy. I can now share the background and source for each topic, how the tools and techniques have helped many others not just me, and my wish for each of you to truly experience a life of joy, contentment, and fulfillment.

Although this podcast is an exploration of what I have found most helpful to me, it may or may not completely resonate with you. Consider this podcast as an introduction to what life may be like for you, so you can realize you have choices and can start discovering your options and choose those that resonate with you. My wish is that this podcast gives you HOPE for a better future and that you start exploring tools to help you manifest your goals, your dreams.

Backing up for a minute to earlier in my journey…

Looking for the key to happiness? Eager to find joy in your life? Wanting that “silver bullet” to solve all your problems? Wishing for your dreams to come true?

For most of my life, I was seeking all the above, wishing and wanting my life to be different, better than it was. Throughout my initial studies and research, I was given two “answers to everything life throws at you”:

  1. Reduce stress and love yourself more
  2. Don’t worry be happy

That’s it? That’s all the advice I was ever going to get? What kind of “silver bullet” is that? Of course, if I could magically reduce stress and merrily love myself more, all my issues would drift away. But, how do I do that? If it were easy, I would have done it by now. And, so would the entire rest of the world. But I don’t see that happening.

How about “don’t worry be happy,” that cute little song from long-ago days? I couldn’t find the manual on how to replace worry with happiness in the song – or anywhere else, for that matter. Perhaps there are “helpful aids,” but I’m not into the drug scene at all.

Thus, I continued my life-long search for the key(s) to happiness.

Fast forward to today, having decades of research and thousands of hours of practice behind me, I finally understand what it takes to be happy. It’s not a “silver bullet” nor a “helpful aid” – it is a change in my choices based on a change in how I feel about myself and my beliefs. This podcast series shares the steps I took toward happiness, internal peace, and joy.

However, one size does NOT fit all. Have you ever found a piece of clothing that boldly announced “one size fits all” – but it didn’t fit you? Often you must try it on first to find out if it fits. Treat this podcast like that. Try it on for size – does it resonate with you? Is it something you can do, and want to do?

Your life journey thus far includes all the experiences of your past– the happiness and heartbreaks, the good times and bad times, your childhood and everything you have seen, done, didn’t do, believed, and lived, up to this very moment. However, your past is NOT a predictor of your future, unless you want it to be. Right now, at this moment, you are creating your future. Will it consist of the same days you have been living for the past decade? It doesn’t have to, if you are willing and able to change your thinking and some of your beliefs.

Are you ready to change your thinking and your beliefs? No? Well, you get what you focus on. If you focus on the same things every day, you get the same day every day. Facing “reality” is like playing the same movie over and over because you think that is the only movie you have. Life is filled with more movies than you could ever watch. Life is like a smorgasbord or buffet, so try something else besides the white bread, OK?

Now, are you ready to try something different? What do you have to lose? Just try it for a bit. If you don’t like it, you can go always back to your life the way it was.

Let’s begin with this question:

Did You Know We Are All Prophets?

We hear a lot about “self-fulfilling prophecies” when we think the worst, and the worst happens. The belief behind a self-fulfilling prophecy is: you focus on, think about, and/or worry about something so long and so hard that your worst fears actually come true.

How about when we think the best, and the best happens? What about your best dreams and hopes? Could they come true if you put the same amount of focus and thought into them?

You betcha!

We are more accustomed to worrying about a fearful event happening in our lives than we are to dreaming, hoping, wishing, and expecting joyous and happy events. You get what you focus on. Can we start – and continue – to think of a brighter, happier future for ourselves? Can we consciously choose thoughts and actions that lead to that joyful future?

We have trained ourselves to constantly think negatively, so we now have the opportunity to choose to think positively. Let’s turn “self-fulfilling prophecy” into a wonderful outcome, a descriptive term for the way we are joyously living our lives every day.

We are all prophets of our own lives. Let’s prophesize health, abundance, happiness, and joy for ourselves and for others. Let every thought we focus on and every action we take lead toward the goal of self-fulfilling the beneficial prophecy of our choosing.

In this podcast series, I will introduce concepts, thoughts, and ideas that helped me get out of “victim” mode and into owning my own power, discovering true happiness and joy, and planning toward a planetary healing.

Unlike smart phone applications, there is no single app that will do the work for you. This podcast series is an introduction to tools you can use to lift yourself up to a brighter, happier you. Even if some of the tools don’t resonate with you, you will be provided with a groundwork from which you can build your own tools and strategies. An annotated bibliography will be included for your further study and enlightenment.

Each podcast will include one or more new tools for your awareness, activities for you to practice, and a summary of the major points.   1. Be open to the possibility that your life can change and improve in ways unimaginable now
  2. Try out the Tools, and practice the Activities, to allow the message to sink in and, perhaps, resonate better than from the initial listening
  3. “You get what you focus on.” Try it. Stop yourself several times a day and ask, what am I focused on? What am I thinking about? How do I feel about what I am thinking about?
  4. You Must Be the Change You Want to See in the World.” – Mahatma Gandhi – later, you will see a deeper truth in this message, but, for now, just know that every one of us plays an important part in this world


Starting today, practice each of these activities every day. Some sound easy, almost trite, but if you are deep in a depression or a rut, are reliving “Groundhog Day,” or you feel hopeless of ever changing your life, you may be surprised what these little activities can do to start improving your days.

  1. Every day when you first awaken, tell yourself that this is a new day and that something new and wonderful will happen today – you are out of the “Groundhog Day” scenario, the repetitious day-after-day of same-old-same-old.
  2. Every day, perhaps multiple times a day, look for a “bright spot”: it may be a flower that displays itself colorfully against an otherwise gray background, it may be a smile from someone who acknowledges you as someone worth sharing his/her smile with, it may be the lilting birdsong trilling above the traffic sounds, or it could be any of thousands of objects, sights, sounds, smells, or textures that you encounter that day. Enjoy that “bright spot” and recognize that it is something new that you hadn’t experienced yesterday – the something new and wonderful you told yourself you would find today.
  3. Every day, before you go to sleep, think through your day and remember the “bright spots” you encountered that day, how each made you feel, and express gratitude for that “something new and wonderful” you experienced that day – and that you are eager for more.

To the Listener:

I realize all this sounds “too good to be true” – which is usually a warning sign of “snake oil peddlers” – but please give the ideas presented in this podcast series some thought. Please be open to the possibility of actually being able to make changes in your life, gradually but steadily, and see yourself getting better each day (even if you have to fake it at first). You always have choices, so you can start today, making choices that lead you to feel better about yourself and this world.
